My life in Ham Radio started as a novice in 1991 as KB9HKP. After about three months I took the technician exam andbecame N9OUK. I took the General written exam and passed but just never could get my code speed up over 10 words per minute. I remained a tech+ until April 2000 when I again took the General exam and passed again giving be a General license with the new restructuring. In June of 2003 I took the Extra exam and passed. Then after some hard work and encouragement from friends I started working some CW and found that the N9OUK didn't work so well on CW. In March of 2005 I acquired the callsign of WE9M.
During my time as a Tech+ I worked actively with Skywarn, R.A.C.E.S, & ARES. I continue to help with these Public Services today.
I have been member of Amateur Radio of Decatur County, Inc. since becoming a Ham.I have served as President and Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Some of my other interests in the hobby include working DX, playing with all the digital modes and ragchewing. I also Love to play with and experiment with new antenna designs. One of the most enjoyable things I do is share what little I know about the hobby with new hams and those interested in the hobby.I enjoy working with my ham friends when they are erecting new antennas or towers.
In the daylight hours I am generally working DX on 20-6 meters. During the night time hours if I am not working DX on 160-30, you can generally find me with my good friends on 3875 or 3720 KHz and during the winter months sometimes on 1940 KHz
If you are a Ham keep the hobby alive and if you are not a Ham come join the fun.
Recently I was able to get DXCC MIXED, DXCC 20 M, DXCC 80 M, DXCC 40 M,DXCC CW, DXCC PHONE, and DXCC RTTY. I am now working on 10 M, 15 M and 5 Band DXCC. I also have WAS BASIC, WAS 160 M and a few eQSL Awards.
